OnePoint representatives met with Members of Parliament to advocate for practical solutions to housing affordability, supply, and attainable homeownership across Central Ontario.

OnePoint Association of REALTORS® joined REALTORS® from across Canada in Ottawa for the Canadian Real Estate Association’s (CREA) Political Action Committee (PAC) Days, meeting with MPs representing ridings across OnePoint’s region to discuss housing challenges and opportunities for meaningful policy change.

Representing more than 2,700 REALTORS® across Central Ontario, OnePoint brought local housing perspectives to Parliament Hill, sharing insights into the barriers facing homebuyers, renters and communities.

Advancing Practical Housing Solutions

During meetings with federal representatives, OnePoint presented CREA's two key REALTOR® recommendations focused on expanding housing options and improving access to homeownership. Feedback from MPs was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the value of bringing forward tangible, actionable solutions.

REALTOR® Recommendation No. 1: Expand Mortgage Loan Insurance to Address Missing Middle Housing Supply and Ownership Options

OnePoint brought forward CREA's recommendation to expand mortgage loan insurance to encourage the development of missing middle housing, including multiplexes and townhomes.

The proposal called for adding a fourth scoring category to MLI Select to support missing middle rental supply and establishing a new companion program, MLI Select – Ownership. This program would apply the same proven points-based model to ownership-tenured housing, with a missing middle requirement, helping create more attainable homeownership options.

REALTOR® Recommendation No. 2: Reform Income Verification Rules

CREA also called on the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) to establish clear rules allowing lenders to verify and count income regardless of how it was earned.

Modernizing income verification would better reflect how Canadians work today, helping self-employed individuals, contract workers and those with multiple income streams overcome unnecessary barriers to mortgage qualification.

Continuing the Conversation

The positive response from MPs highlighted the importance of presenting clear, practical policy recommendations that governments could act on to address housing challenges.

CREA PAC Days complemented OnePoint’s ongoing advocacy with municipal and provincial governments, reinforcing our commitment to policies that increase housing supply, improve affordability and expand housing choices across Central Ontario.

OnePoint will continue building relationships with elected officials and advocating for solutions that help Canadians find a home that meets their needs.
